The definition

What is context operations?

Context operations is the ongoing work of keeping what HubSpot knows about your business accurate enough for its AI agents to act on. HubSpot calls that knowledge Growth Context. It lives in three places, and all three go stale on their own.

  • What you tell HubSpot: Context Home

Your business, customers, team and processes, written into Context Home, plus knowledge vaults holding the documents agents should read.

  • What HubSpot records: your CRM

Properties, lifecycle stages and activity history that agents read on every record. Clean, documented fields decide whether that helps or spreads the mess faster.

  • What the agents produce: their output

Campaign plans, content and record updates, read by someone who knows your business before your buyers see them.

Why it matters

Why can bad context be worse than no AI at all?

Because an agent acts on whatever context it is given, right or wrong. Looking across its customer base of 300,000+ companies, HubSpot found the same AI models produced opposite results depending on the context behind them. With bad context, in HubSpot's words, “not only did outcomes fail to improve, they were worse than using no AI at all.” An agent does not know your data is wrong. It acts on it, confidently, at scale.

What is included

What does context operations include?

Four pieces of recurring work: filling and maintaining Context Home, documenting your data model, reviewing agent output, and a quarterly context audit. The first pass fills the gaps. After that, the job is keeping it true.

  1. Context Home, filled and kept current

Business, customers, team and processes, custom context and knowledge vaults, written from how your business actually works and updated when it changes.

  2. Your data model, documented

Every property your agents and your team rely on gets a plain description, entry instructions and option definitions, so people and agents read a field the same way.

  3. Agent output, reviewed

We read what HubSpot's agents produce and correct the context behind anything that misses, so the fix holds next time.

  4. A quarterly context audit

Once a quarter we check your context against what changed in your business and in HubSpot, and set what to fix next in your quarterly roadmap.

Your options

Should you do context operations yourself, or hand it off?

You can do it yourself if someone on your team has the admin access, the time and the habit to keep it current. Most firms fill Context Home once and stop. Here is how the three approaches compare.

Who it is for

Who is context operations for?

B2B firms that run on HubSpot and are switching on its AI features, or being sold them. It fits best when these sound familiar.

  • You are on HubSpot and use its agents, or plan to
  • Your portal has grown faster than anyone has documented it
  • Nobody on your team owns Context Home, or has opened it
  • You want agents doing the production work and a person owning the judgement
  • You would rather fix the inputs once than correct the outputs every week

How much does context operations cost?

Context operations: questions we get asked

What is HubSpot Context Home?

Context Home is the page in HubSpot where you see and manage what HubSpot knows about your business, so its agents and your team work from the same picture. It arrives pre-populated with what HubSpot already knows, suggests updates over time, and covers your business, customers, team and processes, plus custom context and knowledge vaults.

Is Context Home included in my HubSpot plan?

Yes. Context Home is included in every HubSpot plan, including Free: Free portals reach it from AI settings, Starter and above from Agent Hub. Some agents that read it need more: Marketing Studio and its campaign, content and nurture agents require Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, are in public beta, and use HubSpot Credits.

Who can edit Context Home?

Most of it needs Super Admin or Partner Admin permission. Any user can update their own profile and email personality. That is one reason it goes stale: the people who know the business best are often not the admins.

Is context operations a separate retainer from Managed Growth Services?

No. It is part of every Managed Growth Services tier. The first fill of Context Home usually runs as one work stream, and keeping it current runs alongside your other work.

How is this different from HubSpot onboarding?

Onboarding builds the portal once: pipelines, properties, workflows. Context operations keeps what HubSpot knows true after that, because context goes stale every time you change an offer, a process or a person.

Can our team do this ourselves?

Yes, and some teams should. The work is not hard to start. It is hard to keep doing. Working sessions are there to build that habit in your team.

Do HubSpot's agents cost extra?

Many of them use HubSpot Credits, and the cost varies by agent. We tell you what each one costs before we switch it on.

Where should we start?

With the Portal Audit. It scores your AI context alongside the rest of your portal, so you know what the agents would be reading today.
